Sunbeam is a fully owned subsidiary of Australian diversified industrial, GUD Holdings Limited, Sunbeam has been manufacturing quality small appliances since 1921. Throughout their history, they have been responsible for some of the most innovative products to hit the Australian market.
Gruden worked closely with the novelty brand division to help generate interest in their range of children's cooking appliances called Cool Creations.
The nine appliances each had an associated character e.g. the pie maker was a wizard, however, Sunbeam had never fully exploited the marketing opportunities offered by these characters.
Gruden's brief was to build a website that would be vigorously promoted below and above the line before Christmas to improve brand awareness, create product interest and increase sales.
Gruden recognized the enormous potential the characters offered in terms of igniting and maintaining the children's imagination and interest in the product range. So, the first stage of the project was fully focused on bringing the characters alive e.g. Gruden decided how they would talk, what they would say, how they would move, and the relationships between each of them.
It was agreed that each character/product would benefit from having its own website to allow individual marketing of the products and future expansion of the range. As a result, Gruden developed nine micro sites where the kids could not only learn about their favourite characters, but also about recipes and cool interesting facts associated with each of them.
The site was designed to be explorative allowing users to travel through the site and find hidden fun facts as well as prizes; all of which aimed to educate the users about the brand and products.
In addition, Gruden designed, developed and animated original games, such as, Mikey Martians House Party and the Treasure Hunt.
The site and games were built in both HTML & Flash utilizing the best of both technologies to create a fully interactive, fun and imaginative web experience for users and which exceeded the business objectives of the client.
