The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) enforce and regulate companies and financial services laws to protect consumers, investors and creditors within Australia.
Before its latest design refresh, the ASIC website was 10 years old and users were reporting difficulty in using the websites for locating key information and performing tasks.
An online survey was published on the ASIC website during August 2006 to find out what the key issues were, the short term outcomes of which formed the brief to Gruden for the website redesign.
Working in partnership with The Performance Technologies Group (PTG), Gruden were commissioned to redesign the website, based on updated template wireframes provided by PTG.
The key business objective of this project was to provide the users with access to information and functions on the site more easily and efficiently. With this in mind, the focus of the design was to implement a website design with some clear call to actions for core tasks such as form download and register searching.
Whilst a Commonwealth government agency, ASIC wanted to break away from the classic government look and feel and reach out to their web literate, corporate audience.
The final design incorporates open areas with clear margins to improve content absorption with high contrast text and graphic elements to add some vibrancy. A secondary palette has been introduced to help differentiate the modules and clearly define each of the key areas.
The use of strong blocks of colour, provide structure to the overall interface and also provide a high-level of contrast for clickable elements. The final design selected by ASIC was a very simple and clean design that they felt effectively represented the organization whilst not appearing to corporate or marketing focused.
The final design was produced as HTML templates; with Gruden supporting the ASIC internal development team's implementation into a lotus Notes CMS.
